Sew with Kathrine – Learn to Create a Top with a Basic Sleeve Pattern

In this masterclass, you’ll learn how to create a top with sleeves that looks tailored to your body: flattering over the bust and shoulders, with sleeves that give you both freedom of movement and a clean, professional finish.

About the Course

We start with your body – not standard sizing. You’ll learn how to take accurate measurements of your upper body and develop a personalised basic bodice block for a top in a woven fabric. This block becomes the starting point for a timeless top with sleeves, with a focus on fit, balance, and beautiful lines around the bust, shoulders, waist, and hips.

You’ll then draft a basic sleeve tailored to your own arm and your own armhole, so that the sleeve follows your movement without feeling tight or creating excess fabric. You’ll see how the bodice and sleeve work together, learn how to transfer the pattern to fabric, cut and sew a toile in cotton calico, and work systematically through adjustments to both the top and sleeve until the silhouette fits the way you want it to.

The course goes in depth on the basic construction of a sleeved top – we deliberately leave out collars, cuffs, and advanced shirtmaking details, so that you can gain full control of the most important elements first.
