Sew with Kathrine – Learn how to make skirt

Would you like to create skirts that fit perfectly at the waist and over the hips – without relying on commercial patterns? In this masterclass, you’ll learn how to construct your own skirt pattern based on your personal measurements, and how to develop several classic skirt styles from the same personalised base.

About the Course

You’ll start by taking accurate measurements of yourself and develop your own basic skirt block based on your body measurements. This construction is the main focus at the beginning of the course, as it becomes the foundation for your personal skirt pattern – a tool you can take home and use whenever you want to create new skirts.

During the course, you’ll construct and sew a classic panelled skirt (a panelled pencil skirt) in a woven fabric, based on your own measurements. You’ll learn how to adjust both the basic block and the pattern, so that you finish the course with a completed skirt pattern and a base that genuinely fits your figure.

In addition, you’ll be introduced to how you can develop several skirt variations from the same basic block on paper at a smaller scale (and, if desired, as half-toiles) – including flared skirts, A-line skirts, and circle or half-circle skirts.

We will go through how to make our own pattern based on the base we have drawn up, and we will be shown how to place and cut out the pattern parts in the material, and pin them together correctly.

Furthermore, you will be taught how to sew the pattern parts for the skirt together.

In part 2 of the course we will start by learning how to make a pattern for a blouse shirt with a “basic” sleeve. In English we call it a “Casual shirt and Sleeve foundation.

The model that has been selected is a blouse shirt with sleeves, in solid woven material.

The focus for the blouse shirt is to understand and learn how to develop patterns for tops with a “basic” sleeve.
